Putting My Money Where My Mouth Is

The McCain team is freaking out they might lose the election so they’re stepping up the lies. Now they’re claiming Obama is a socialist, hoping some people will associate it with communism. I guess the terrorist thing is not working and they’re panicking.

Not all McCain supporters are willing to swallow tall tales like, I don’t know, maybe the Brooklyn Bridge is for sale. Here’s what someone said to me:

“My friend that I work with, who is a staunch republican, plans to vote republican, at least has the integrity to respond to an email she received with a check at snopes and the washington post and found it was false. She then returned the information to her texan republican friend, stating the facts. Although she was met with a lot of ridicule...she insisted that it only diminishes the integrity of her party to not take the responsibility to vote with the facts and check the facts prior to participating in sending emails along that mindlessly slander.’’

Even though she’s voting for McCain, I’ve got to admire this woman.

But she’s in the minority. I get tons of e-mail every day from people who hope I’m gullible enough to believe the crap the McCain people directed them to forward. Usually I respond back with some links to the facts like http://obamafactcheck.com/facts/10/345798.shtml, www.Snopes.com and maybe a quote or two to prove the truth. I doubt they even read it. I don’t think they want to know the truth. It’s frustrating. Therefore, I am doing something even better. Every time I get something that’s a ridiculous lie, I am sending a five dollar donation to the Obama campaign. Talk about sweet justice—I donated twice already today!

LOL, Funny I heard that very same thing from a young person I work with, the socialism and communism. I was shocked, just shocked!

Love it. I sent in a cornershot to the Roanoke Times about my son and his love for Obama. I'll let you know when they plan to print it. You'll enjoy it.

Haven't read you in awhile, but just caught the last 2 entries and you said a mouthful! There's a lot to consider when choosing who's best qualified. But, all issues aside, I just wouldn't choose McCain based on his characture alone. He's not the one I want to invite into my living room for the next 4 yrs. Obama has style and substance. I think he's a transformational figure. He's the new generation. I don't like the negative tone of the McCain campaign. The characture assasinations in both debates. The facial expressions, and condecending comments. His choice for vice president, Sarah Palin makes me question his judgement. Obama maintained his composure at all odds. He has a steadiness, an intellectual curiosity, a depth of knowledge and an approach to looking at problems that would serve him well in the white house.

I would go broke pretty quickly!

Now that's poetic justice! I think I'll do the same. We've been sending a small donation every pay day but this will be much more fun!

Joe the Plumber! Maybe we'll hear from Joe Sixpack next?!

Joe, I was just wondering what you thought of Palin spending $150,000 on clothes for a couple of months? That mavericky moose-hunter sure does relate to the common man, doesn't she? I don't think I've spent that much on clothes in my entire life!

I have just spent the morning reading your stories. They are hilarious. Your last two about racism and the election are very deep, rational, well thought out and insanely honest. I am impressed and will continue reading you with my morning coffee. Now I must return to work!

There is one huge issue about Obama that I can't get past no matter how I try and rationalize it. And that is the fact that he wants to change the National Anthem and that he dishonors the American flag. There is no way he can be an American President and justify that. And no matter how much he denies it, he admitted those remarks to General Bill Ginn on Meet the Press, September 7, 2008. I'll never get over that even if he is elected.

Greener Pastures--A City Girl Goes Country said...

Amy, please don't believe that. That is NOT TRUE. Please show me where you got that information.

Kurt just looked up Meet the Press that day and Obama wasn't even on that day. Joe Biden was on Meet the Press on Sept. 7, 2008. So where'd you hear this?

You can also go here for the facts and you will see that Obama DOES NOT want to change the National Anthem and he does not dishonor the flag--that's silly. Here's a link to the truth: http://obamafactcheck.com

Hope this helps.

Looks like there is a controversy over whether or not NBC removed it or whether it was ever posted to begin with. I don't know. Anyway, here is the link so you can see that I didn't make this stuff up.

I knew you didn't make it up Amy. You're not like that. But my mother has a saying: Believe half of what you see and less of what you hear.

I went to the link. They must have taken down the false story. It looks like it originated from a blog though and not a news company, which usually checks their sources. Wherever it came from, it's a shame some people stoop to spreading lies about innocent people and get other innocent people to believe them.

It's true we have to be careful what we believe. With there being such an overwhelming amount of information out there you really do have to do some research and make sure it's coming from a reliable media source. I check a few (my son told me to do this!). Also sadly, the media is biased. Just read the same news item from both Fox news and MSNBC for example and see the difference in the wording and portrayal of the same story. U-tubes can be manipulated. Also pretty much anything circulating through an e-mail is bogus. The Republicans like to prey on people's fears. We're all still feeling 9/11 and so anything that makes Obama sound like a terrorist or un-American gets a reaction. It's a scare tactic.

One more thing. People should really just focus on the issues and judge each man on the content of his character.

First, today is Nov 4 and Obama has won - I am so incredibly relieved and happy and was lucky enough to hear an entire city cheer when the race was called at ~9pm in California.

I too received an incredible amount of scarily inaccurate material on Obama - from a chain email hinting that with his background only an external terror group would have funded his education (!!!) to his plan to be sworn in using a Quaran. I too sent those forwarding the information a link to both Snope and the St. Petersburg Times Truth-o-Meter.

Great idea on sending more money to his campaign as well. For years I've always offset any racist remark I've heard with a donation to the Southern Poverty Law Center (and if its really really obnoxious I add in money for the ACLU).

Well its 10:15pm on the West Coast and there is still a lot of celebrating going on outdoors. And I have a happily huge smile on my face...

Not really a comment but hi Debi! I saw your comment on my much neglected blog - I'll have to post the story of how I got my fabulous Cesar dog - and must say, Cesar loves horse people as they really 'get' the whole dogs are not human thing (and that by treating a dog like a human you are doing it a huge disservice). Enough for tonight...
